GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A key 9-0 run late in the second half helped propel Gwynedd Mercy past visiting Centenary, 98-83, in the Griffin's home opener Wednesday night.

Gwynedd saw the Cyclones chip away at an 18-point second-half deficit to get within 82-77 with 4:04 left. Jeff Seigafuse scored eight of those points in that stretch thanks to back-to-back three-pointers to help restore a double-digit lead.

Rich Dunham led GMercyU with 20 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Austin Harriott netted a career-best 17 points. Somah Slewion (12) and Seigafuse (11) also finished in double figures.

Prior to the game, Dunham was awarded a commemorative ball for scoring his 1,000th career point last season at Williams in the NCAA Tournament.

The team shot over 58% in the second stanza and forced 24 Centenary turnovers which led to 29 points.

Chris Labelle recorded a game-high 32 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 16-of-20 at the free-throw line. His jumper in the paint capped a 24-11 run by the Cyclones in the second half to pull the game to a five-point contest.

In the first half Gwynedd, which never trailed in the contest, broke open a 25-20 score with a 13-2 stretch late in the period to help give them a 42-32 lead at halftime.

Early in the second, the Griffins slowly built their lead to try and pull away for good. Two free throws from Harriott with 8:43 left gave Gwynedd their largest lead of the game (71-53). But Centenary climbed back in it over the next four minutes before GMercyU clamped down for the win.

The team returns to action on Tuesday when they welcome Arcadia the fifth annual "Battle of Route 309".
