Tommie men use threes with ease in 94-61 win

Sophomore guards Ryan Lindberg and Burt Hedstrom each scored 16 points and G.T. Johnson added 14 points as No. 5-ranked St. Thomas cruised to a 94-61 home win over Macalester in MIAC men's basketball play Thursday night at Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies (18-1 overall, 14-0 MIAC) pushed their Division III leading season win streak to 18. They also extended their conference lead to three games with six to play with their victory, plus second-place St. John's four-point road loss at Bethel.

Wyatt Ferm finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Jackson Henningfield had 14 points for the Scots (4-16, 1-14).

Freshman guard Anders Nelson had 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in 25 minutes for St. Thomas.

The Tommie bench again outscored the Purple starters, 48-46, and outscored Mac in bench points 48-8.

The Toms sank 13-of-18 from 3-point range en route to 56-32 halftime lead. They sank seven treys during a 25-6 run over the last 8:00 to close the first half. The Toms shot 55 percent on the game with only seven turnovers, and sank 17-of-34 from 3-point range.

St. Thomas has limited 11 of 19 opponents to 65 or less points, and all 11 foes at Schoenecker Arena under 73 points.

The Toms play Saturday at Hamline (3 p.m.).
