Keuka College Men’s Basketball Falls at Alfred State in Overtime

ALFRED, N.Y. — Trevor Powell (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn) scored a career-high 26 points but it was not enough for the Wolves as Keuka College lost in overtime at Alfred State 78-73 on Saturday.

Powell knocked down four threes on Saturday, playing in 43 of 45 minutes for Keuka College (4-5). Ryder Mansfield (Concord, N.C. / Charlotte United) recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 18 rebounds for the Wolves.

Alfred State 78 vs. Keuka College 73 – Overtime

Keuka College knocked down a pair of early threes and played with the lead for most of the first half against the Pioneers. After Alfred State cut it to two points at 16-14, the Wolves scored six straight to build an eight-point lead 22-14 with five minutes left in the half. The teams would trade baskets, but the Pioneers closed the half on an 11-0 run to lead 27-24 at the break.

On the opening possession of the second half, Trevor Powell knocked down a three to tie the game back up for the Wolves. Ryder Mansfield knocked down a three to give Keuka a 35-33 lead. He then followed that up with a layup and Achraf Sadouk (Williamsburg, Va. / Bruton) drained his second three of the game as the Wolves led 40-33. Nine unanswered points would shift the lead back to the Pioneers at 47-44. The Wolves rebounded and the lead traded hands multiple times down the stretch. With 42 seconds left, DJ Billings (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Odyssey) hit a three to give Keuka a 62-61 lead. Alfred State was fouled on the ensuing possession, but were only able to tie the game, going 1-2 from the line. Keuka had the ball with a chance to end the game, but their late three-point attempt missed and the game went to overtime.

Keuka scored a pair of early free throws, but the Pioneers responded. Alfred State hit a three and followed that up with a jumper following a Keuka College offensive foul. The Green and Gold cut the Pioneer lead to one, but four straight free throws by Alfred State reestablished their control of the game. Alfred State held on to defeat Keuka College in overtime 78-73.

  • Saturday was the third straight loss for Keuka College against Alfred State. The Wolves still lead the all-time series 4-3
  • It was the first overtime game of the 2018-19 season for the Wolves
  • Trevor Powell added eight rebounds, giving him 479 in his career, moving to eighth on the Keuka College all-time list
  • 18 rebounds by Ryder Mansfield was a career-high and tied for the fourth most rebounds in a game in Keuka College history
  • Alfred State was able to take advantage of 27 Keuka College turnovers, outscoring Keuka 28-9 in points off turnovers

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves return to North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night at home. Keuka College will host SUNY Poly at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center at 8pm. The Wildcats have won the last seven games against the Wolves, including eliminating Keuka from the NEAC Tournament last season.
