THE BASICS:

- The Lead: Paced by a career-high 25 points from sophomore Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.) and a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double by senior Tim Roberts (Oak Bluffs, Mass.), the No. 8 MIT men's basketball team defeated Bridgewater State in an 84-64 final on Thursday night. The game marks the final contest of the first semester for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT got out to a quick start and held the 17-11 lead at the 13:25 mark following back-to-back threes from Hinkley. The Bears battled back though with a 7-0 run and took their first lead of the game midway through the half on a three-pointer from the corner by Nick Crocker.

- That would prove to be the only lead of the game for Bridgewater State as the Engineers clamped down on defense and answered with a 14-0 run over 4:12 to seize the 31-18 advantage.

- BSU's Ryan Carney ended the scoring run with a layup that made it a 31-20 margin with 5:02 on the clock before MIT closed the period strong. The Engineers led by a 31-22 score at the 4:02 mark, but finished the half on a 14-3 surge behind two three-pointers from senior Cameron Korb (Los Gatos, Calif.) and four points by Roberts.

- In the second period, the Bears made it a 14-point game at 61-47 after a Corey Green layup. That was as close as the hosts would get though as an 18-4 run behind a trio of three-pointers by Hinkley over the next five minutes put the game out of reach.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Hinkley led the Engineers with a 25-point effort to go along with the double-double by Roberts and a 19-point, 13-assist double-double by senior AJ Jurko (Weston, Fla.). For Roberts, this marks his fifth straight double-double and seventh overall this season.

-  Korb also added 11 points and now sits at 990 points for his MIT career as he looks to join teammates Bradley Jomard (Paris, France) and Jurko in the 1,000-point club.

- For the Bears, four starters were in double figures as Crocker, Carney and Rayshon Ward all finished with 11 to go along with 10 points by Dimitri St. Louis.

- The Engineers are ranked No. 8 in this week's D3Hoops.com National Poll, up one spot from last week's rankings.
