Baines Scores 36 as Tigers Beat Cal Miramar

LOS ANGELES — The Occidental men's basketball team made easy work of Cal Miramar in a non-conference game, winning 96-61 at Rush Gym on Saturday.

Zach Baines led the way as all 13 suited players saw significant court time. The senior scored 36 points on an impressive 14 for 16 shooting, a perfect 5 for 5 from the 3-point line and 3 of 4 from the free throw line.

Baines' big game scoring follows up a 28-point, 13-rebound performance at La Verne on Wednesday night.

Jacob Adler added 16 points, including 4 for 6 shooting from the 3-point line, Austin DeWitz scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Ryan Kaneshiro had nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Tyler Sweeney, Jonny Crosthwaite and Caleb Yellin-Flaherty each added eight points. 

Oxy shot 55 percent from the field and 56 percent from three, while holding Cal Miramar to 41 percent shooting.

Season Impact: Oxy moves to 7-0 on the season. The Tigers opened SCIAC play with a 77-73 win at La Verne and are currently 1-0 in conference.

Next Game: Oxy returns to SCIAC play against Whittier on Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. at Rush Gym.
