The Baruch College Bearcats received another career-high night from Andre Harris to defeat the Hawks of Hunter College Hawks 91-87 in overtime in an absolute rivalry classic between these two teams on Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The CUNYAC contest was simply a tale of two halves.
The visiting Bearcats shot a torrid 67 percent (22-for-33) to jump out to a big 54-31 halftime lead.
However, the Hawks rallied in the second half by shooting 52 percent (15-for-29), while holding the Bearcats to 27 percent (10-for-36).
The Hawks trailed on their Homecoming Night 71-53 with under eight minutes remaining, but went on a furious 24-6 run to tie the game and force overtime. Melvin Collins nailed a three with three seconds left (77-77) to force the extra stanza.
Despite the second half struggles, the Bearcats battled back behind eight points in the overtime by Harris, who finished the night with a career-high 29 points to go along with 12 rebounds to seal the 91-87 win.
The Hawks scored the first basket of the overtime, but the Bearcats outscored them 14-8 during the rest of the overtime period to improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the CUNYAC.
William Sixsmith had 19 points and Bryler Paige notched 14 points with four assists for the exciting road win. Jack Sixsmith dished out eight assists and Benjamin Boateng recorded 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.
Gio Gabbidon led four players in double-figure scoring for Hunter with 21 points.
