NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Packy Witkowski had a historic night as he set Coast Guard single-game records with 40 points and 10 three-pointers as host Coast Guard remained unbeaten with a 101-72 win over neighbor Connecticut College in a non-conference game.

Witkowski had 26 points and was 7 of 10 from 3-point range in the first half and finished 14 of 22 from the floor including 10 of 15 from behind the arc and made 2 of 4 free throws while also grabbing a team and season-high eight rebounds before leaving with 6:50 left and the Bears leading 89-57.

Max Lampe and Grant Johnson held the CGA single-game record of nine 3-pointers. Lampe did it on Jan. 25, 2017 at WPI while Johnson made nine on Feb. 21, 2007 in the first round of the NEWMAC tournament at Babson.

Kevin Alvarez (2016), Peter Keel (1996) and John Gallagher (1985) each had 39 points in a game to hold the single-game school record at the Academy.

It was the second game with 30 or more points this season and fifth time in his career with 30 or more. Ironically, in the Bears last home game, a 91-70 win over Fisher on Nov. 27th, he did not score.

Coast Guard improves to 7-0 on the season while the Camels drop to 2-5.

The Bears are off to their best start since the 2007-'08 season when the team started the season with nine straight wins and would win a school record 24 games and advance to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Tournament.

Freshman Tyler Perez tied his season-high with 18 points off the bench as he connected on 6 of 9 from the floor including 3 of 6 from 3-point range. Sophomore J.T. Cox added a season-high 12 points off the bench in the win.

Senior David Labossiere led three Conn. College players in double figures with 17 points while sophomore Dan Draffan (15) and sophomore Jack Zimmerman (12) also scored in double figures for the Camels.

Draffan and freshman Ryan Omslaer led the Camels with seven rebounds each.

Coast Guard jumped out to a 13-4 lead with just over three minutes into the game as Witkowski knocked down a trio of treys in that span.

He would make back-to-back treys giving him five on the night as the Bears led 21-11 with 12:27 left in the half.

Witkowski would make his seventh 3-pointer of the half with 3:59 left giving the Bears a 47-25 lead. Coast Guard lead 52-33 at the half.

He wasted no time in the second half just 33 seconds hitting a trey and then tying the school record with his ninth 3-pointer with 15:26 left as Coast Guard led 63-44.

Witkowski made his record 10th trey and tied the school-record with his 39th point with 7:43 left and Coast Guard led 88-55.

He would make one of two free throws with 6:50 left for the record breaker before taking the rest of the night off.

Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday when the Bears play at Mitchell in a non-conference game at 2:00.
