YORK, Pa. – For the first time since the 1991-92 season, The University of Scranton men's basketball team is undefeated through its first seven games as the Royals posted an impressive, 87-68 non-conference victory at York (Pa.) on Wednesday night. 

The 1991-92 Royals won their first 20 games and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, finishing the season with a 25-3 record.  This year's squad, which is currently receiving votes in the national top 25 poll, has a long way to go to match those feats, but has already put itself in good company with the program's best start in 27 years.

On Wednesday night, Scranton (7-0) scored 13 of the game's first 15 points and never looking back, never trailing in the win over the Spartans (6-3) as junior Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and freshman Jackson Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) evenly combining for 40 points. 

Mancuso recorded his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points while tying a career-high with 13 rebounds. He also collected three steals and blocked two shots in the contest while shooting 7-of-10 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.

Danzig enjoyed his best offensive output of his young career with 20 points and tied for a game-high seven assists. Danzig went 8-of-15 from the floor including a 4-of-8 showing from three-point range.

Junior Kyle DeVerna (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and sophomore Logan Bailey (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) added 14 points apiece as Scranton shot over 50 percent from the field for the sixth time in its first seven games with a 53.0 effort on the night.

Scranton jumped out to the 11-point advantage just four minutes into Wednesday's contest before York used a 6-0 spurt to pull within five.  The Royals twice pushed their lead back up to 13 points before the Spartans cut their deficit to 39-31, but the visitors scored the final seven points of the first half to take a 46-31 lead into the break.

The Royals maintained a double-figure lead throughout the second half and extended their advantage to as many as 26 points before rounding out their second straight 19-pont victory.

Freshman Ben Bosland (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) had a strong all-around performance off the bench for Scranton, totaling seven points and tying Danzig for the game-high in assists with seven while collecting six rebounds and two steals.

In addition to its 53 percent shooting night, Scranton went 36 percent from three-point range and made 8-of-10 free throw shots.

The Royals held York to just 33.3 percent shooting while holding a 44-38 advantage in rebounding.

Scranton will be idle on Monday, December 17 when it hosts Manhattanville in a non-conference game starting at 3 p.m. in the John Long Center.
