ST. PAUL, Minn (November 30, 2018) - UW-Stout's John Keefe passed the 1000 career point mark by scoring a game-high 32 points but it wasn't enough for a win as the Blue Devils lost, 94-82, at the University of Northwestern Friday.
Keefe came into the game needing 29 points and he went from downtown to get 21 of his points, draining 7 of 11 long range bombs. Overall, Keefe was 11 of 22 from the field and slipped in three free throws.
The Eagles carried a 55-36 lead into the halftime locker room after jumping out to an 11 point lead five minutes into the game. The Blue Devils cut the lead to two points, 24-22, on Andrew Niebuhr's bucket at 10:18.
After falling behind by 22 points early in the second half, Stout (3-3) chisled away at the lead. A 3-pointer by Keefe pulled Stout to within 66-56 at 12:16. Luke Geiger hit a lay-up and 3-pointer and Kyle Williams laid in the ball to cut the lead to three points, 66-63, at 10:13.
Stout got to within two points on a layup by D'Marcco Patrick, but that would be as close as the Blue Devils could get.
The Eagles (3-3) had five players score in double digits,led by Caleb Hageman and Tanner Youngberg with 21 points each. Brady Bellefeuille had 15 points, Brady Peterson 14 and Anderson Bazile 10. Youngberg made it a double-double with 15 rebounds.
Williams finished with 11 points and Geiger had 10 points.
Stout shot 31 of 75 from the floor (41.3 percent), 11 of 34 from 3-point range (32.4 percent) and 9 of 12 from the free throw line (75.0 percent). The Eagles shot 36 of 67 from the field (53.7 percent), 11 of 28 from 3-point (39.3 percent) and 11 of 15 from the line (73.3 percent). Stout held a slight 37-36 lead off the glass.
Stout returns to Johnson Fieldhouse to host Silver Lake College, Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. and will be at Crown College, Friday, Dec. 7.
