The Oglethorpe men's basketball team found themselves in a tough matchup with Randolph-Macon Saturday at the Emory Thanksgiving Classic in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets led most of the way en route to a 73-56 win over the Stormy Petrels to stay undefeated and drop Oglethorpe to 2-2 on the season.

Randolph-Macon shot 46.2 percent from the field to Oglethorpe's 38.5 while converting on 41.7 percent of their 3-point shots and outrebounding the Petrels 40-27. The Yellow Jackets outscored Oglethorpe 40-18 in the paint.

After a 5-0 start by the Randolph-Macon, the Petrels responded with a 10-3 spurt over the next 3:30 to take a 10-6 lead five minutes into the contest. The two teams went back and forth for a brief period from there, with freshman guard Ryan Jenei and sophomore forward Will Koch sinking 3-pointers to vault their team back to a four-point lead, 18-14, with 10 minutes left in the half. The Yellow Jackets took off from there, though, going on an 18-5 run over the next eight minutes to take a 32-23 lead with 1:30 remaining until halftime. Randolph-Macon went into the break up 34-25.

They continued that streak into the second half, outscoring Oglethorpe 28-13 over the opening 9:45 of the period and extending their lead to 62-38 with 10:15 remaining in the contest. That 24-point advantage was their largest of the game, and the Petrels never got closer than 17 the rest of the way.

Koch finished the game with 14 points on 2-for-4 shooting from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. He also passed out a pair of assists. Senior forward Will Perry added 12 points on 4-of-8 from the field overall, 2-of-4 from distance and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. He added a pair of steals, as well. Sophomore guard Lane Foster led the team with six assists and scored four points on 2-of-3 from the field.

"Randolph-Macon was the much more physical team today," said Oglethorpe head coach Philip Ponder, "and that showed up on both both sides of the court and on the glass. They took us out of our game, so credit goes to them. In the long run, playing teams like that will help us get better, and we've got another tomorrow."

The Petrels return to Emory on Sunday to take on No. 22 Maryville (Tennessee) at 4 p.m. From there, they'll return to Dorough Field House for games against Trinity (Texas) and Boyce next weekend.
