Efficient First Half Sends No. 24 UW-Whitewater to Road Win

The No. 24 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team remained undefeated for the 2018-19 season Tuesday night with its second road victory of the season, an 83-55 triumph at Monmouth in a non-conference affair in Monmouth, Ill.

 

The Warhawks (4-0 overall) shot 62.1 percent in the first half, including 7-of-10 from 3-point range, to take a 48-26 lead into halftime. The team finished the game 13-for-24 (54.2 percent) from 3-point range and 51.8 percent from the field.

 

UW-Whitewater held the Scots (2-1) to 30.9 percent shooting from the floor, including 3-of-17 from 3-point range.

 

Senior guard Mitchell Pfeifer hit five 3-pointers on his way to a 19-point, four-rebound performance. He also led the team with two steals.

 

Senior guard Andre Brown collected 16 points , including 14 in the first half, and two assists, and senior guard Malik Celments totaled 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior guard Dalton Menke hit three 3-pointers for nine points, and senior guard David Sachs dished out a team-best five assists.

 

The Warhawks scored the first six points of the game, which they never trailed. Senior forward Melvin Brown brought the team's lead to double digits with 13:35 on the clock, and the team took its largest lead of the half at 24 points following a Clements 3-pointer with 3:30 to play.

 

Sachs scored five straight UW-Whitewater points to start the second half, and Clements increased the lead to 30 points with 17:09 remaining. The Warhawks led by 35 points at the 14:11 mark, and the advantage grew to 37 points with 7:23 on the clock after back-to-back 3s by Pfeifer.

 

UW-Whitewater returns home Tuesday, Nov. 27, to take on Beloit. Tipoff at Kachel Gymnasium is slated for 7 p.m.
