OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's basketball team jump started the 2018-19 season in grand fashion, thumping Elmira College in the opening round of the Max Ziel Tournament on Friday night. Oswego recorded 106 points in the tilt, the most since it posted 122 in a win over D'Youville College on this exact day in 2012.

THE BASICS

  • Result: Oswego 106, Elmira 67
  • Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium – Oswego, N.Y.
  • Records: Oswego (1-0)  |  Elmira (1-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In all, Oswego played all 14 available players on its roster, with 13 of those scoring points.
  • Six of those 13 finished in double digits, with Brandan Gartland putting on a shooting clinic for a career-high 26 points, one better than his previous mark.
  • The most impressive part of the 26-point effort was the junior's efficiency, shooting better than 70-percent from the floor (8-for-11), 3-point range (6-for-8) and the foul line (4-for-4).
  • Gartland's six-made treys tied a career-high that he set in the same game as his previous career-best for points.
  • Newcomer Joe Sullivan narrowly missed a double-double in the contest, racking up 12 points and a team-best nine boards.
  • Julien Crittendon and Tim Marshall each finished with 11-point showings while the duo of Tyler Pierre and Louis Fedullo had 10 apiece.
  • Fedullo hit the glass as well, having the second-most rebounds for the Lakers with seven.
  • Sophomore Liam Sanborn matched a career-mark with eight assists while also registering seven points.
  • Also scoring for the Lakers were Hunter Cole (5), Allen Durutovic (5), Cal McTigue (4), Quinn Carey (3), Eric Sanfilippo (1) and Bo Sireika (1).
  • As a team, Oswego shot the ball well, registering 55.2-percent from the field and 44.8 from long distance.
