The Baruch College Bearcats lost 77-67 to the College of Staten Island in a CUNYAC championship semifinal contest on Thursday night at CCNY's Nat Holman Gymnasium.
The loss eliminates the Bearcats (15-11), while the Dolphins (16-11) advance to the Championship on Friday night to play Lehman College.
The team will now wait to discover if they will earn a possible postseason berth to the ECAC Division III Regional Championship Tournament. The entire field will be announced on Monday afternoon, February 26, followed by first round contests on Wednesday, February 28.
The Dolphins led throughout most of the evening, scoring the first five points and owning a six point (32-26) halftime advantage. They started the second half with a quick three, but the Bearcats battled back to get as close as 37-33 after a pair of free throws by Chimaechi Ekekeugbor to keep the contest close.
The Dolphins pulled away by shooting a torrid 65% (15-23) in the second half to build up a 13 point (66-53) lead with under six minutes left en route to the win.
Andre Harris led with a game-high 23 points, while Ekekeugbor tallied another double with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
Christian Taylor came up big for Staten Island with 22 points.
