The tandem of Jalen Adams and Tracy Edmond proved too much for the Hope College men's basketball team in a 70-49 Olivet College victory on Wednesday.

The Flying Dutchmen were denied a share of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship with the road loss that snapped a season-high five-game win streak.

Olivet claimed a share of its first MIAA title since 1973 behind a game-high 29 points and 14 rebounds from Adams and 24 points from Edmond. The Comets (15-9, 10-3 MIAA) also secured the top seed and home court for the February 23-24 MIAA Tournament.

Hope (15-9, 9-4 MIAA) will be either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed for the MIAA Tournament. The Flying Dutchmen still can clinch a piece of the MIAA title with a Senior Day win against Albion at 3 p.m. Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse and an Olivet loss at Calvin.

Against Olivet, freshman center Preston Granger of Lansing, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS) led Hope with 16 points and 12 rebounds. It was the first double-double of his collegiate career.

Junior guard Jason Beckman of Shelby, Michigan (Shelby) finished with 13 points. Senior guard Dante Hawkins of Holland, Michigan (Holland) had 10 points.

Olivet held Hope to a season-low in points on 36 percent shooting from the field (18-50). The Flying Dutchmen went 1-17 from 3-point range.

The Comets took command midway through the first half by scoring 12 of 16 points over a 4 ½ minute span for an 18-10 lead.
