Rowan Men's Basketball Cruises To 89-67 Win Versus Rutgers-Newark

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team trailed just once in an 89-67 victory over visiting Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.

 

The Profs pick up their fourth straight win to improve to 13-11 overall and 9-8 in the conference. The Scarlet Raiders fall to 8-15 with a 4-13 NJAC mark. Rowan honored forward TJ Booth (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) before the contest. He led the Profs with 17 points and seven rebounds. Guard DaRon Curry (jr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) posted 15 points and nine boards and forward Ramon Wright (jr. East Orange, NJ/Irvington) tallied 11 points and seven rebounds. Guard Rob DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) contributed with nine points and five assists while forward Manny Lowe (fr. Berlin, NJ/Winslow Twp.) grabbed seven rebounds.

 

Rutgers-Newark guard Chase Barneys (so. Woodbridge, NJ/Colonia) recorded a game-high 28 points. Guard Tyler Ofray (jr. Newark, NJ/Church Farm School) registered 18 points and six boards. Guard Erick Loften-Harris (sr. Brooklyn, NY/Union) chipped in with 10 points and forward/center Dante Ralph (fr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had nine rebounds.

 

In the opening period, Loften-Harris made a layup to give the Scarlet Raiders an 11-10 lead (14:08). Rowan went on a 14-0 run for a 13-point advantage (24-11) with 7:40 to go. Booth sparked the rally with seven points, guard Tomas Malmsjö (so. Malmö, Sweden/Malmö Idrottsgymnasium) produced five and Curry added a layup. The Profs did not trail for the rest of the game. They had a 15-point cushion (35-20) at halftime. Rutgers-Newark came within 10 (46-36) with 14:25 left in the second before Rowan built its largest lead of 81-51 after a three-pointer by Booth (4:41).

 

The Profs finish the regular season at Ramapo College on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
