NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University men's basketball team earned another Skyline win, this time over St. Joseph's College Brooklyn by a score of 76-53, at the Max Stern Athletic Center on Thursday evening. The Maccabees have now won seven straight games, their highest unbeaten streak in over a decade. Yeshiva (13-9, 11-6 Skyline) moves back into a third place tie with Purchase College, while St. Joseph's Brooklyn drops to 7-10 in conference play and 8-14 overall.

Four YU players scored in double-figures. Leading the way was senior forward Eli Mamann, who tied a game-high with 20 points, shooting 6-for-9 from 3-point range, while dishing out three assists and grabbing two boards. Sophomore forward Gabriel Leifer produced 18 points, brought down six boards, and distributed three assists. Sophomore guard Simcha Halpert produced 16 points with four rebounds and just as many dimes, while classmate Bar Alluf produced 11 points, grabbed six rebounds, and distributed four assists.

The Maccabees outscored the Bears, 44-24, in the second half. For the game, Yeshiva outrebounded St. Joseph's Brooklyn, 38-30, and won the bench points battle, 24-11.

The game was close early, as the Maccabees had a 20-19 lead with 6:52 remaining in the half. A 3-point field goal by Mamann gave Yeshiva a four-point advantage. On the next offensive possession, Alluf successfully converted a layup, while being fouled. He hit the free throw to complete the traditional three-point play, and cap off a 6-0 run by the Macs, to put the home team up 26-19 with 6:03 remaining.

Later in the half, a 3-pointer by Halpert capped off another 6-0 run by Yeshiva, putting YU up 32-29 with 1:39 remaining in the half. The Bears responded by scoring six unanswered points to pull to within three going into the intermission.

St. Joseph's momentum carried over into the second half, as a successful jump shot by Stephane Etheart tied the game, 38-38. Yeshiva countered with 11 unanswered points in a span of 2:10 to take a commanding 49-38 advantage with 14:26 remaining in regulation time. Mamann started the run with another 3-point field goal. A traditional three-point play by Leifer continued the rally, while a 3-pointer by Halpert concluded the unanswered stretch.

After the Bears narrowed the deficit to 49-43, a successful shot from beyond the arc by Halpert catapulted Yeshiva to a 11-3 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from Mamann, to put the Maccabees up 60-46 with less than 10 minutes to go. Yeshiva would build its lead during the remainder of the contest. Halpert produced a jumper that made it a 7-0 run for YU, to give the home team its largest lead of the game, 76-50, with 3:46 left to play. The Maccabees went on to earn its seventh win in a row.

For the game, junior forward Tal Gweta dished out a team-high five assists to go along with five points and three rebounds. Sophomore forward Kevin Bokor had four points with five rebounds, while senior forward Ethan Gipsman grabbed two caroms of his own. Sophomore forward Daniel Katz added two points, tied a team-high with five assists, and brought down three rebounds. Junior forward Justin Hod and freshman guard Yoav Deutsch each grabbed two rebounds, while freshman forward Michael Bixon had a carom of his own.

For the Bears, Etheart had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Yeshiva will be back in action on Sunday, for a Skyline matchup at Merchant Marine, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
