13 Different Scorers Propel Nazareth Past Elmira

Rochester, NY – Nazareth spread the wealth around on Thursday, as 13 different players scored in a 105-82 victory of Elmira at Kidera Gymnasium.  Cody Green found his rhythm from distance, going 6-for-9 to collect a team-high 20 points. 

It was the sixth-straight win for the Golden Flyers, setting up a pivotal Battle of the Beaks tilt against St. John Fisher Saturday at 2 p.m.  Nazareth holds the first place spot in the conference (17-6 overall, 12-2 Empire 8), while the Cardinals are tied for fourth place with Utica at 8-5. Nazareth defeated St. John Fisher 93-84 on January 16 in the first meeting which went to overtime. 

Elmira hung tough in the first half, keeping the Golden Flyers halftime lead to just eight, at 39-31. 

Green nailed three 3-pointers in the first, including draining one with three minutes remaining, which gave the hosts their largest lead of the half at 33-20.

The Soaring Eagles lone lead of the half came at 10-9, before Nazareth led the rest of the contest. 

Nazareth broke open the game early in the second half, scoring 16 of the first 20 points to take control of the contest, 56-35. 

Green continued to stroke it from deep in the second, bombing his sixth 3-pointer midway through the half to push Nazareth's lead to 75-50.

Tyler Stenglein poured in 15 points on 7-for-11, while dishing out six assists.  Jake Burgio was 4-for-5 form the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe for 16 points.

Daniel Jacob, who has come into his own recently, scoring in double digits in four of the last five games, poured in 13 points. 

Isaac Nelson scored a career-high 11 points on 3-for-4 from the floor.

Brendan Wind chipped in eight points and racked up six assists.
