The Bethany Bison won a key Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup over the Bearcats in Latrobe, by a score of 70-57.

Bethany scored the game's first four points before Austin Dedert got the hosts on the board at the 17-minute mark.  A Matt D'Amico jumper a little over two mintues later made the score 8-6.

Later, down four, Shemar Bennett broke free along the baseline for a dunk that brought the crowd into the game, making it a 12-10 game in favor of the Bison.

Liam Davis of Bethany hit a pair of shots to increase the lead to six, but the Bearcats slowly chipped away, getting within one, 18-17, after a Tom Kromka spin move led to a layup with 8:50 on the clock.

However, Bethany then went on a 9-4 run to take a 27-19 lead at the 4:41 mark of the first half.

A drive to the hoop by Jason Capco brought it back to a 6-point game, 27-21, but the Bison scored four straight points to run the lead to 10, and a drive by Calique Jones near the end of the half made it a 35-23 lead for the visitors at the break.

Jones scored again to start the second half to make it a 14-point game, but a pair of three pointers by Josh Duda, separated by a blocked shot from Kyle Evans, later brought the Bearcats back within seven, 38-31.  A tip-in by Dedert at the 14:55 mark made it a 5-point game, before Jones added a jumper to end the Bearcat run.

Down by six after a pair of Tom Kromka free throws, the Bearcats got another three from Duda to make the score 41-38, but Jones answered with a three for the Bison at the 12:23 mark.

A dunk by Dedert off a D'Amico feed brought it back to a four-point game, but the Bison scored 9 straight points to take a 53-40 lead at the 8:11 mark.

A three by Mike Simmons got the Bearcats within eleven (57-46), but from there the Bison continued to roll, with a Jones three near the 2-minute mark giving them a 67-50 lead, and they went on to post a 14-point win.

Duda's 9 points paced the Bearcats, while Simmons added 8.  Kromka had 9 rebounds.  For the Bison, Jones had 24 points to lead all scorers on the night.

SVC is now 11-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while Bethany takes over sole possession of second place at 12-3.  Both teams trail Thomas More (14-1).

The Bearcats travel to Thiel College for a 3PM matchup on Saturday (February 10).
