Blugolds hold advantage in final minutes, defeat Blue Devils

EAU CLAIRE (January 31, 2018) - In a game that featured 13 lead changes and 10 tied scores and a game that was even for the first 35 minutes, UW-Eau Claire grabbed the momentum in the last five minutes and went on to a 77-68 win over UW-Stout Wednesday at Zorn Arena.

The Blugolds (10-10, 2-7 WIAC) gathered a little bit of that momentum late in the first half, overcoming a six point Stout (7-13, 1-8 WIAC) lead and tied the game 36-36 at halftime.

The game differential in the second half was never more than five points for either team until until Eau Claire went on an 8-2 run to break a 58-58 tie and held a 66-60 lead with 5:02 left. Eau Claire closed out the game with an 11-6 run to take the nine point win.

Eau Claire's George Diekelman led all scorers with 27 points. Clay Kujawa came off the bench to score 15 points and Dan Becken added 10 points.

Zach Dahl led Stout with a career-best 18, scoring 10 in the second half. Isaac Elliott and Sam Ortmann each scored 16 points.

Stout will host UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m., then will host UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
