Langley jumper completes comeback at New Paltz, 75-73

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.—Junior guard Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) nailed the game-winning shot with 17 seconds left to lift the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (9-11, 4-9 SUNYAC) to a 75-73 win over the SUNY New Paltz Hawks (6-13, 3-9 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) finished with 18 points including 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and a pair of blocks. Tristan Wissemann ended the day with 18 points and four rebounds.   
 
Through the first five minutes of play, junior forward Serigne Kane(Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep), Langley and sophomore guard Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens H.S. of Teaching) got the Bears to a comfortable 11-5 lead. At 12:08, the Hawks took the lead for the first time after a 12-4 run. Wissemann led the charge with eight points, while Kane scored all four points for Potsdam during the stretch. For most of the remaining half, both teams had small runs and could not pull away from the other. With 4:30 left in the half Langley made a layup to put the Bears up 30-29. This did not faze New Paltz as they ended the half with a 9-5 stretch and a 38-35 advantage at half.
 
Keeping the momentum, the Hawks started the second with a 9-2 run. Potsdam answered with a 15-6 rally to narrow the gap to one. Delsol-Lowry was in charge during the stretch with eight points and Onabor was right behind with five. Up one with 11:50 left, New Paltz extended its lead to 11 with a 13-3 push, with seven points coming from Wissemann. The Bears would not back down as they put on a 13-2 run immediately after, to tie the game at 68 with 3:57 to go. Onabor and Delsol-Lowry combined for 11 points during the stretch. With just over a minute remaining, New Paltz was up 73-70 before Onabor hit a critical three to tie. With 17 seconds left in the game Langley got the ball from Delsol-Lowry and made the go-ahead jumper near the right corner. With Potsdam playing lockdown defense, New Paltz was unable to get a clean shot as time expired, giving Potsdam the 75-73 victory.
   
Langley finished with 16 points and six rebounds, and Kane secured a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Delsol-Lowry ended with 14 points and tied his season-high with seven assists.
 
Dylan Balducci had 15 points and a pair of assists, while Nick Paquette finished with 12 points and five rebounds for the Hawks.
 
The Bears shot 46.8 percent from the field, while the Hawks shot 41.1 percent. Potsdam also outrebounded New Paltz 41-31.
 
The Bears are back in action on Friday at 7:30 p.m. when they face off against Cortland in Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.
