Men’s Basketball Routs Elmira, 101-72, For Third Straight Win

            ELMIRA, NY – Hartwick led for virtually the entire game to win its third consecutive game on Thursday night with a resounding 101-72 victory over host Elmira College at Speidel Gymnasium. The Hawks are now 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the Empire 8.

            Fourteen players got into the scoring column for the Hawks led by Kevin Townes' (Lagrangeville, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) game-high 18 points. He also tied for a game-high with 11 rebounds. Tommy Kelly (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) added 17 points for the Hawks and Justin Carruthers (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) dropped in 10 points.

            Hartwick jumped out to a quick lead and a 15-5 run would put the Hawks up by double digits less than eight minutes in, 19-8. The advantage would swell to 21 points, 44-23, after a Townes' three-pointer before the Hawks would settle on a 48-30 lead at halftime. They would shoot 50% from the floor while holding the Soaring Eagles to just 28% shooting.

            A 16-4 run quickly built the Hartwick lead to 30 points just four minutes into the second half. The margin would grow to 31 later and the Hawks led by at least 20 points the rest of the way in the victory.

            Brandon LaForest (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes) would contribute a game-high 11 assists for 'Wick. He would also score eight points along with teammates Patrick Garey (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City), Corey Baker (Granby, MA/Granby), and Matt Knezovic (Ballston Lake, NY/Mansfield University). Marc du Moulin (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) netted seven points.

            Elmira received 16 points from Alex Ischiropoulos. Justin Porrett contributed 13 points and Henry Cuffee added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

            Hartwick looks for its fourth straight win on Saturday afternoon when it visits Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ on Saturday.
