St. Thomas had two chances to knock down a winning shot in the final seconds on Wednesday on the road in St. Peter, but neither one went through in a 69-68 MIAC men's basketball loss to Gustavus.

Sam DuBois' 3-point basket with 5:46 to go put the Gusties ahead to stay. The Toms pulled within 69-68 on freshman Burt Hedstrom basket with 40 seconds to go. After a Gustavus turnover with 12 seconds left, the Tommies took a time out then drove up court. Hedstrom attacked the basket and drew contact and missed a contested shot inside. Michael Hannon had the rebound kick out to him but his shot went in and out just as the buzzer sounded.

Ryan Boll had 13 points and 13 boards for the Tommies (9-8 overall, 7-5 MIAC). UST sank 11 treys but convered just 7-of-13 at the foul line.
