St. Thomas had two chances to knock down a winning shot in the final seconds on Wednesday on the road in St. Peter, but neither one went through in a 69-68 MIAC men's basketball loss to Gustavus.

Sam DuBois' 3-point basket -- his only points of the game -- put the Gusties ahead to stay with 5:46 to go.

The Toms pulled within 69-68 on freshman Burt Hedstrom's basket with 40 seconds to go. After a Gustavus turnover with 12 seconds left, the Tommies took a time out. UST drove up court and dished to Hedstrom, who attacked the basket and drew contact but missed a contested shot underneath. Michael Hannon had the rebound kick out to him, but his 12-foot jumper went in and out just as the buzzer sounded.

Ryan Boll had 13 points and 13 boards for the Tommies (9-8 overall, 7-5 MIAC). UST sank 11 treys and outrebounded Gustavus 32-25 but converted just 7-of-13 at the foul line.
