BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England rattled off a 36-10 run in the middle portion of the 2nd half on the way to a 99-85 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball victory over Nichols College on Monday evening (Jan. 22) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

With their fourth straight win, the Nor'easters (8-9) move to 6-4 in the CCC. UNE had dropped the previous five meetings against the Bison (14-3, 8-2 CCC) by an average margin of more than 24 points.

Alex Kravchuk paced the hosts with 21 points and five steals. After tallying 59 points through the first dozen games of the season (4.9), the reigning CCC Rookie of the Week has now posted 86 in his last five performances (17.2).

UNE got 13 points and four blocks out of Jackson McCoy, and nine points apiece from Gavin Dibble and Matt Hobbs. Eight more came from Ryan Beatty and Drew Muniz, while Drew Coveney and Avery Debrito registered seven each. Coveney also dished out eight assists and grabbed five boards.

For the match, the Nor'easters made 44 percent of their field-goal tries (34-of-77), while Nichols could only manage 36 percent (29-for-80).

The Bison received a game-high 23 points from Tyler Dion, who splashed five treys. Marcos Echevarria, Kash Jackson, and Nate Tenaglia all recorded 15 points in support. Jerome Cunningham had more than double the rebound total of any other player in the contest (14), although NC finish four short of UNE in that category (49-45).

Nichols led for the majority of the 1st half, by as many as five, but a 10-3 spurt by the Nor'easters to close the period established a 39-37 edge for the home side.

Dion had eight as the visitors started the 2nd with an 11-3 run to go up 48-42, however, UNE seized control in the stretch that followed. The Nor'easters canned five triples and went 14-for-24 from the floor overall during a span of 10:32, while limiting the Bison to just four total makes (of 15) and forcing six turnovers. Big Blue came out on the other side with an 80-60 cushion at the 5:11 mark.
