GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team dropped a 99-89 decision to visiting William Paterson University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.

 

The Profs are 8-10 overall and they are 4-7 in the conference. The Pioneers improve to 10-8 with a 5-6 NJAC mark. Four William Paterson players scored in double figures, led by guard Dapo Badmos (sr. Toronto, Canada/The Kiski School) with 23. He also dished six assists. Forward Richy Espinal (sr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park) totaled 22 points and seven rebounds. Guard George Sapp (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) tallied 21 points and grabbed seven boards. Forward Sean Smith (so. Moraga, CA/Campolindo) produced 17 points and forward Henry Voorhees (so. South Orange, NJ/Columbia) corralled eight rebounds.

 

Rowan forward Ramon Wright (jr. East Orange, NJ/Irvington) posted a game-high 25 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Forward TJ Booth (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) recorded 17 points and eight rebounds. Guards Nick DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) and DaRon Curry (jr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) contributed with 12 and 10 points respectively. Curry also had seven boards.

 

The score was tied five times in the opening 10 minutes, with the last coming at 10:09 (24-24). The Pioneers then went on a 19-6 run to take a 13-point lead (43-30) with 3:34 on the clock. Badmos led the way with 10 points. Guard Walter Harvey (fr. Woolwich, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) made a layup (0:32) to get the Profs within 10 (47-37) before Espinal beat the buzzer with a three for a 50-37 advantage at halftime. Badmos and Espinal scored 17 and 16 points respectively in the period and Wright paced Rowan with 12.

 

In the second, Espinal's layup (17:19) gave William Paterson its largest lead of the contest at 19 (61-42). The Profs fought back with a 17-4 rally to trail by six (65-59) with 12:47 to play. Curry tallied seven points, Wright netted six and guard Rob DePersia (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) added four. Smith nailed a three-pointer (10:08) to increase the margin to 13 (74-61). He hit another shot from beyond the arc to make the score 86-68 with 6:36 left. Booth had a layup and free throw (4:01) to cut the deficit to 10 (90-80). Sapp converted two foul shots for a 13-point cushion (96-83) with 1:00 remaining. Guard Ryan Legler (fr. Stone Harbor, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) sank a three (0:34) to make the score 96-88. Sapp ended the game with a pair of shots from the line (0:22).
