WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (9-8, 4-6 NJAC) rained down 13 second-half three-pointers, but the effort wasn't enough to overcome visiting Ramapo (13-4, 9-1 NJAC), 73-61, Jan. 17.

After shooting just 2-for-13 (.154) from beyond the arc during the game's first 20 minutes, the Pioneers exploded for a 13-for-24 (.542) effort during the second stanza. The Roadrunners led by as many as 18 (44-26, 13:49) before WP drained 10 three-pointers during a 7:25 span, getting to within five at 61-56 with 6:24 to play. Ramapo answered with an 11-0 run as the Pioneers missed their next nine attempts from the field, opening up a 16-point margin at 72-56 with 1:09 on the clock.

Sophomore forward Sean Smith led three Pioneers in double figures with 15 points. Senior guard George Sapp had 13 tallies and a career-high seven assists, while junior guard Peter Martinez added 12 points. Sophomore forward Henry Voorhees notched his second double-digit rebounding total of the season with a game-best 10.

The Pioneers stayed close with the Roadrunners for the game's opening minutes, scoring five unanswered points for a 10-8 edge with 13:36 on the clock. However, WP went cold from the field, collecting just four tallies during the next 11:43 as Ramapo built a 21-14 advantage by the 2:22 mark. The Roadrunners carried a 27-16 lead into the locker room, thanks in large part to 47.8 (11-23) percent shooting and a 24.1 (7-29) percent defensive effort.

Senior forward Thomas Bonacum led Ramapo with 18 points, and senior forward Christopher Moseley added 16. The Roadrunners outscored the Pioneers 38-10 in the paint overall and connected on 18 of 24 (.750) field-goal attempts during the second half.

William Paterson will visit Rowan Saturday, Jan. 20, at 3:00 p.m.
