Kravchuk leads Nor'easters in 100-72 victory over Curry

MILTON, Mass. -- Alex Kravchuk poured in a season-best 23 points on 10-of-12 field goals to guide the University of New England to a 100-72 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball win over Curry College on Tuesday night (Jan. 16) at Katz Gymnasium.

It was the third straight outing with a new scoring high for Kravchuk, who posted the most efficient shooting performance by a UNE player in nearly nine years. He also picked up five steals in the contest.

The Nor'easters (6-9, 4-4 CCC) received an additional 15 points on 5-of-7 accuracy from Ryan Matthews, and nine points with four assists out of Gavin DibbleDaron Hoges, Jr. and Matt Hobbs each recorded nine points, as well, and shared the team-lead in rebounds with eight.

UNE secured a 62-43 advantage on the glass, which included 28 offensive caroms that led to 32 extra shots compared to Curry.

The Colonels (1-15, 0-9 CCC) were paced by 21 points and six boards from Jared Thorpe-Johnson. Jeff Card added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Kieran Carroll had nine points with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Nor'easters never trailed in the match, and built the cushion into double digits for good at the 3:44 mark of the 1st half (39-28). The spread was 49-32 at the break.

UNE will be back at home on Saturday (3 p.m.) to face Endicott College.
