Hope Falls To MIAA-Leading Adrian

The Hope College men's basketball team could not slow Justin Webster-led Adrian College in a 74-63 loss on the road Saturday.

Senior guard Dante Hawkins of Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) scored a game-high 22 points for the Flying Dutchmen, who fell to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Adrian (13-2 overall, 4-0 MIAA) maintained its lead in the league standings. The Bulldogs are one game up on second-place Olivet and two ahead of third-place Alma, Calvin, Hope, and Trine.

The 6-5 Webster led five Adrian starters in double figures with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. He's averaging a double-double this season.

Webster's layup 6 minutes, 55 seconds into the first half gave the Bulldogs the lead for good at 9-8.

Adrian pushed its lead as high as 21 points early in the second half against Hope, whose starting post players saw limited minutes because of foul trouble.

The Flying Dutchmen were outscored 19-8 at the foul line — with only 13 attempts to Adrian's 31.

Junior guard Jason Beckman of Shelby, Michigan (Shelby) chipped in 19 points for Hope.
