BABSON PARK, Mass.—Seniors Nick Comenale (New York Mills, N.Y.) and Bradley Jacks (Fort Washington, Md.) combined for 42 points as Babson College defeated visiting Coast Guard Academy, 81-65, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Wednesday night at Staake Gymnasium.

With its third straight win, Babson improves to 8-6 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Coast Guard slips to 8-4 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC.

Comenale led all scorers with 22 points and Jacks added 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go along with four assists in just 17 minutes for the Beavers. Sophomore Frank Oftring (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored a career-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and pulled down six rebounds, while junior Brandon Johnson (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) chipped in with 13 points, five boards and three steals.

Senior Micah Baldez (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) finished with 17 points and six rebounds, junior Nolan Benson (Lexington, N.C.) scored 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and sophomore Noah Baldez (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) added 11 points and team highs of seven boards and four steals for the Bears.

Coast Guard made nine of its first 11 shots and led 21-10 just over six minutes into the contest. Comenale knocked down back-to-back triples and Oftring scored five straight points as part of an 11-0 spurt that gave the Green and White a 28-25 lead with 6:42 to go until halftime.

The Bears went back in front 29-28 on a layup by Benson before the Babson finished the stanza with a 14-4 burst to take a 42-33 lead into the break. Coast Guard responded to begin the second half, getting 11 points from Micah and Noah Baldez as part of a 13-2 run to go in front 46-44 with 15:41 to play.

The Beavers took the lead for good on back-to-back hoops by Oftring, and got three straight hoops from Comenale as part of a 12-0 run that turned a 51-all deadlock into a 63-51 lead with 7:09 to play. Coast Guard got as close as 10 on a layup by Benson at the 5:27 mark, but Jacks followed with eight straight points, which included consecutive three-pointers, to extend the margin to 17 with just over three minutes remaining.

The Green and White, which knocked down 12 trifectas, shot 48.4 percent overall and finished with 18 assists on its 31 field goals.

The Bears, who outscored the Beavers 40-24 in the paint, finished 1-of-9 from three point range and shot just 54.5 percent (12-of-22) at the charity stripe.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to Clark at 1 p.m., while Coast Guard takes on WPI in its conference home opener at 3 p.m.

• The Beavers are now 53-26 all-time against Coast Guard and have won 14 straight against the Bears since 2012.
• With four three-pointers on Wednesday, Comenale is now tied for second all-time with Michael Kingslsey '97 at 214 career triples.
• Babson's victory is its 27th straight regular season NEWMAC win, which is the second longest streak in Division III behind Whitman's 29 consecutive Northwest Conference wins.
