A Ray of Hope shined brightly at an opportune time for the Flying Dutchmen.

Forward Teddy Ray sparked the Hope College men's basketball team to an 86-77 victory at Kalamazoo College by scoring 16 of his career-high 24 points after halftime.

The junior from Fort Wayne, Indiana (Homestead HS) played all but two minutes in the second half — making five shots from the field, including two 3-pointers and all four of his free-throw attempts.

Ray, pictured, helped the Flying Dutchmen overcome an eight-point deficit early in the second half and even their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association record at 1-1.

Hope (7-6 overall) hosts Calvin College on Wednesday in the 197th edition of The Rivalry. Tipoff is 8 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse.

After a short rest, Ray returned and buried a 3-pointer 42 seconds after returning to give the Flying Dutchmen the lead for good at 59-57 with 8 minutes, 9 seconds remaining.

Fifty seconds later, Ray assisted on a layup for freshman forward Preston Granger of Lansing, Michigan (Lansing Christian) that pushed Hope's lead to 63-57.

Kalamazoo (5-8, 0-2 MIAA) never got closer than three points after that.

The Flying Dutchmen scored 54 points during the second half.

Junior guard Jason Beckman of Shelby, Michigan (Shelby) chipped in 19 points, 13 of which came after halftime. He made all eight of his second-half free-throw attempts.

Granger finished with 13 points off the bench.

Senior guard Dante Hawkins of Holland, Michigan (Holland) totaled 10 points and a season-high nine assists. He came within one assist of matching his career.

Guard Jeremiah Vincent led four Kalamazoo players in double figures with 18 points.
