A 24-year old men's basketball record fell on Wednesday night when the Tommies scored 120 points to defeat Macalester College in their first contest of 2018 at the Leonard Center.  

The 120-point performance bested the previous record of 113 points scored against Augsburg on January 19th of the 1993-94 season.  The '93-94 team eventually went on to place fourth in the country following a loss to Wittenberg in the third place game of the NCAA Tournament. 

On Wednesday, St. Thomas put together the record-breaking offensive performance without a 20-point scorer.  However, 15 different Tommies scored, led by four players in double figures.  Senior John Veil came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points on 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range in just 17 minutes of action. 

Fellow senior Tyler Potts followed with 15 points and went 4-of-8 from three.  Connor Bairfinished with 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting and Erik Davis recorded 10 points thanks to a 5-for-6 performance from the field.  Elijah Hannah pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, and Burt Hedstrom dished out seven assists. 

The Purple put up an unprecedented 87 field goal attempts, making 46 of them for a field goal percentage of 52.9 percent for the night.  The Tommies also made 12 of 34 three-pointers and grabbed 61 rebounds, compared to 48 for the Scots. 

The 61 boards, along with the team's 29 assists, are both season highs.  The 29 assists are the most since March 6, 2009 when the Tommies amassed 35 assists against Aurora University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  Wednesday's 61 rebounds are the most in a game since the turn of the century.

Wyatt Ferm was the only Macalester player to finish in double figure scoring with 31 points in 20 minutes.  Xander Schmidt grabbed a game-high nine boards. 

The Tommies will be back in action again on Saturday, when they travel to Northfield for an afternoon tilt with Carleton College.
