WILKES-BARRE (PA) – King's College scored nine of the game's first 11 points and never looked back as the Monarchs opened Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play with a 92-73 victory over visiting Delaware Valley University.


King's improved to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the league while the Aggies fell to 2-10 and 0-1.


DelVal's Alex Matsinye got inside for a layup just 11 seconds into the contest. However, the Monarchs netted the next nine points with four different players hitting the scoreboard. King's built the lead to as many as 15 in the opening half and took a 45-33 advantage into the break thanks to 8-for-17 shooting from 3-point land.


The Aggies never got closer than 12 points in the second stanza as the Monarchs continued its hot shooting over the final 20 minutes. They hit 59.3 percent of their shots from the field, including three more from beyond the arc. King's also turned 22 DelVal turnovers into 28 points. Noah Tanner finished with 20 points while Connor Callejas and Chris Fazzini had 19 and 17 points respectively.


The Aggies hit 25 of their 43 shots inside the 3-point land, but were just 2-for-16 from outside the arc. They did outrebound King's, 40-25, including 12 on the offensive boards that led 14 second-chance points.


Lybrant Robinson came off the bench to score 18 points in 26 minutes. Matsinye was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line, en route to 16 points. He also added nine rebounds and three assists. Austin Chabot netted nine points and Joe Russell provided eight points and eight rebounds.


DelVal will hit the road again on Saturday, January 6 (3 p.m.) when it meets DeSales University in another MAC Freedom showdown.
