OLIVET, Mich. – Tracy Edmond scored 11 points sparking Olivet College's 17-2 run at the end of the first half as the Comets pulled away for a 79-61 victory over Albion College on the opening night of men's basketball action in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Though Albion never led in the game, Albion pulled within five on Ryan Lowe's layup with 7 ½ minutes left in the first half.
Edmond dialed up for a trip of 3-point baskets as Olivet forged a 42-22 halftime lead.
Corey Wheeler heated up for Albion in the second half, scoring 21 of his 27 points, but the Britons never got within 14. He was 7-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, in the second half.
Wheeler, who is averaging a shade more than 17 points through 12 games this season, notched his fifth 20-point game of the season and the senior from Detroit has scored at least 23 in three of the last four games.
Lowe was Albion's other double figure scorer, finishing with 12.
Olivet's Jalen Adams produced game-highs of 30 points and 12 rebounds, while Edmond chipped in with 22 points and eight assists.
Albion (3-9 overall, 0-1 MIAA) returns to Kresge Gymnasium for its next two MIAA games. The Britons have a 3 o'clock Saturday date with Adrian College and a 7:30 game against Alma College next Wednesday.
