JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Sewanee men's basketball team were defeated on Saturday afternoon to MacMurray to conclude the 2017 portion of the schedule.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee led by one point, 36-35, finishing the half shooting 14-of-34 (41.2 percent) from the field. The story, however, was the rebounding, as MacMurray posted 21 boards to Sewanee's 15.
-With 5:15 left in the second half, the Tigers made the lead six, 62-56, the highest of the half before the Highlanders went on a 6-0 run to tie the contest at 62.
-MacMurray held the Tigers scoreless for the final 5:15 in the period to force extra basketball.
-In the overtime period, the 6-0 run by MacMurray would go to a 10-0 run in 8:03 before Luke Smith recorded a layup with 1:57 left in the extra period as the Tigers trailed, 66-64.
-After two free throws by the home team to make it 68-64, Smith, with 1:21 left, got the Purple and Gold to a one-point deficit after a three-point play.
-The Tigers would not get any closer, as MacMurray drained two free throws with 40 seconds left.
-The Tigers recorded just seven turnovers in the contest and forced 14 from MacMurray, which turned into 14 points.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Luke Smith recorded a season-best in points with 25 on 10-of-21 shooting, while adding four steals and three assists to his line.
-Adrian Thomas posted 16 points for the Purple and Gold, while Matt Lee dropped 12 points.
-Cam Caldwell grabbed nine boards to lead the category.
MACMURRAY KEY STATISTICS
-Brent Long recorded a double-double, scoring 20 points, collecting 17 rebounds and assisting on six shots.
-Michael Cameron added 14 points and five dimes for the winners.
UP NEXT
Sewanee will open the 2018 section of the schedule by stepping back into conference play. The Tigers will entertain Millsaps College on Friday, Jan. 5 for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
