Men’s Basketball Outpaced by Lehman, 85-59

BRONX, N.Y. – The Maritime basketball team surrendered their second loss of the season to the Lightning of Lehman College, 86-59, in a non-conference game on Monday night at the Apex Center.
 
Senior Patrick MacDonald (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) scored 14 points while also grabbing a team-high nine rebounds while junior guard Michael Walker (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) added 14 points including three three-point baskets. Senior guard John Liccese (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) tallied 11 points while also connecting on three three-pointers.

Lehman got out to a quick 5-0 lead making their first two shots. MacDonald responded with a layup off the assist from senior forward Isaiah Hayes (Jamaica, N.Y./Queens Teaching) to give the Privateers their first basket. Maritime fell behind 16-9 and could not keep up as Lehman would eventually win by 27 points. The Privateers struggled hanging on to the basketball all night turning the ball over 21 times leading to 23 Lehman points. 
 
With 8:14 remaining in the opening half, sophomore guard Brendan McGovern (Seaford, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) scored a basket from close range to cut the Lehman lead to three, 27-24. Lehman answered back with an 8-0 run to put them up 13, by a score of 39-26. Maritime trailed, 48-33, going in to the break while shooting 10-26 (38%).
 
Lehman increased their lead and controlled the second half on their way to an 86-59 victory.
 
Maritime (2-2, 0-1 Skyline) will return to action on Saturday, December 2nd when they go on the road to Farmingdale for a Skyline Conference matchup beginning at 12 p.m. at the Lynch Sports Center.
 
Lehman (2-1) will be back this Wednesday, November 29th when they visit Farmingdale at the Lynch Sports Center with tip at 7 p.m.
