Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest at TCNJ; Danzig Ties Program’s All-Time 3-Point Mark

EWING, N.J. – The University of Scranton men's basketball team had no answer for another hot-shooting opponent in a 101-72 loss to The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon at Packer Hall.

In the defeat, Scranton senior guard Ethan Danzig (Clarks Green, Pa./Abington Heights) had a team-high 18 points, including three 3-pointers, giving him 224 made 3-pointers for his career. That ties the program's all-time record, held by Al Callejas (1997-01). Danzig tied the mark with a 3-pointer with 4:59 to go in the first half.

The Royals (2-8) also received 12 points and six rebounds from sophomore forward Matthew Mancuso (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and 11 points, six assists and four rebounds from senior guard Kevin Doolan (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge). Danzig also had six rebounds and three assists on the afternoon.

The College of New Jersey (8-1) raced out to a double-digit lead in the first half and took a 55-32 edge into the locker room at halftime. The Lions finished the afternoon hitting 51.5 percent (34-for-66) from the field, including a stunning 22-for-38 (57.9 percent) from 3-point range. TCNJ hit 11 of 15 (73.3 percent) from the free throw line and had a narrow 33-32 edge on the glass.

Eric Murdock Jr. led the Lions with a game-high 26 points, including 8-for-10 from 3-point range. He also had six assists and six steals.

Scranton finished 26-for-55 (47.3 percent) from the field, including 8-for-25 (32 percent) from 3-point range. The Royals hit 12 of 16 (75 percent) from the free throw line and committed 21 turnovers while forcing 12.

The Royals return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 19, when they host Ursinus at 3 p.m. in the Long Center.
