Wayne, NJ – The Montclair State men's basketball team held leads late in both regulation and in overtime however William Paterson came up with huge three-pointers in the closing minute for an 84-82 victory at the WPU Rec Center on Wednesday evening.

Peter Martinez buried a three-pointer with 1:04 left in the OT helping the Pioneers improve to 3- overall, 1-3 in the NJAC.

Senior forward Jarrett Bogus registered a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds for Montclair State, which fell to 5-3 on the year, 2-2 in conference play.

The Red Hawks led 41-37 at halftime and built a 60-43 lead with 11:20 left in the second half after Eddie Emedoh finishes off a break with a layup. But WPU slowly cut into the deficit with a 16-2 run over the next four minutes making the score 62-59 on a Martinez three pointer.

Montclair pushed the lead back to eight points but again the Pioneers battled back climbing within a point at 67-66 following a three-pointer by Sean Smith. Jovanni Chatham sank a free throw with 22 ticks remaining giving the Red Hawks a 72-69 lead. However Richy Espinal came up with a clutch three pointer with 11 seconds left tying the game at 72-72. MSU would get a chance to win the game however a layup by Myles Mitchell-White with three seconds left did not go down.

In the overtime, Montclair trailed until the final 90 seconds when Kaan Yilmaz connected twice at the line putting MSU in front 82-81. Espinal missed on a three-pointer at the other end but came up with the offensive rebounds giving the Pioneers another opportunity which it took advantage of as Martinez drained a three with 1:04 to go.

Montclair State turned the ball over with 42 seconds remaining however it would get it right back as Mitchell-White made a steal with 15 seconds. Freshman Joseph Radi would get a chance to win the game with a three-pointer but that shot was off the mark.

Mitchell-White finished with 17 points, four rebounds and five assists for the Red Hawks. Junior Jordan Roberson added 10 points and eight rebounds. Radi chipped in with eight points and seven boards off the bench with Yilmaz totaling seven points and eight rebounds.

MSU will look to rebound on Saturday, December 9 when it hosts Rowan University at the Panzer Athletic Center with tipoff slated for 1:00 pm.
