BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport men's basketball team took down No. 19 Hobart College in their home opener Tuesday evening by a final score of 89-83. The Golden Eagles improve to 3-1 on the young season, having won each of their last three contests.

Hamed Shamseldin scored his 1,000th career point early in the second half, and was far from done with his night. The senior ended the game with a career-high 42 points on 12-21 from the field and 17-20 from the free throw line. He also added a team-high nine rebounds, six assists, and six steals to his stat line, carrying the team to a victory over the nationally ranked Statesmen.

With the team leading by seven with 7:17 in the half, the Lawrence, N.Y. native rattled off 14 straight points for the Green and Gold, driving the lane on every possession and either making the layup or drawing a foul, where he converted his chances.

The performance from Shamseldin followed up a game yesterday that saw him record a triple-double in the fifteen point win over Medaille. Head Coach Greg Dunne knows he has a special talent in Shamseldin, but was especially impressed with his recent performances.

"Once we got in the bonus, we knew that if Ham drove they'd either have to foul him or he's going to score," noted Dunne. "I don't know if I've ever seen a guy have two nights in a row like he just had."

Although Shamseldin's performance was spectacular, in order to beat a nationally-ranked team like Hobart, solid all-around team play is needed, which Brockport got tonight. Justin Summers scored in the double digits Tuesday evening, dropping 13 on an efficient six-of-nine from the floor. David Clark contributed nine points to go with his six boards, while Tyler Collins and Michael O'Hara each had eight.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Statesmen 51% to 45% from the floor, but really controlled the game from the line, shooting 83.3% on 30-36 from the line, where the Statesmen shot just 55.6% on five-of-nine. Hobart led for just 3:48 in the contest, with the Golden Eagles going on top with 14:18 to play, and holding the lead for the remainder of the contest.

Brockport will look to build on its three game winning streak this weekend when they begin State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play. They'll travel to New Paltz on Friday for a game beginning at 7:30 before a re-match of last year's SUNYAC semifinal game at Oneonta on Saturday at 3 p.m.
