Baruch Falls to Chatham at CMU Doubletree Invitational

The Baruch College Bearcats lost 75-67 to the Cougars of Chatham University in the consolation contest of the Carnegie Mellon University Doubletree Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon.

The Bearcats struggled early and found themselves down by 16 (25-9) midway through the first half. They regrouped in the next 10 minutes and cut the deficit to five points (37-32) into the halftime break. 

In the second half, they kept the momentum going and briefly jumped ahead 46-44 on a jumper by William Sixsmith with 13:04 left.

The two teams exchanged baskets over the next seven minutes and were tied at 56 with 6:14 remaining.

The Cougars, who are a member of the President's Athletic Conference (PAC), broke open the contest at that point with a 12-3 run, highlighted by three 3-pointers, to take a 68-59 lead with under four minutes left. The Bearcats could not recover in suffering the neutral court loss.

William Sixsmith and Chimaechi Ekekeugbor led the visiting Bearcats with 19 points each. For his weekend efforts, which included breaking Baruch's men's basketball all-time scoring record, Ekekeugbor was named to the All-Tournament Team. 

Alex Schoppen led the Cougars from Pittsburgh with 22 points on shooting 6-of-12 from three.

The Bearcats dominated the boards (39-30), but the Cougars shot 14-of-37 from three to capture the win.

Carnegie Mellon defeated Mary Washington, 83-65, to win the holiday weekend tournament.
