SEWANEE, Tenn. - Four Sewanee Tigers finished in double digits, as the men's basketball team defeated Washington & Lee, 96-79, to give Mick Hedgepeth his first win as a head coach on Saturday night in Juhan Gymnasium in the Lon Varnell Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The teams went back-and-forth for the first 10-plus minutes. The Generals made it a one-point game, 27-26 with 8:16 left in the period.

-The Tigers took off from there going on a 10-0 run in a 4:28 span to push the lead to double figures.

-Leading 48-34 heading into the second half, the Tigers kept the foot on the gas pedal and kept pace with the Generals, outscoring W&L, 48-45.

-Rebounding was a key factor in Sewanee's loss to Emory & Henry on Wednesday. The Tigers responded with 40 boards to the opponent's 29.

-The Tigers shot 55.7 percent (34-for-61) for the contest, including 21-for-24 from the charity stripe, good for 87.5 percent.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Leading the four Sewanee players in double figures was Adrian Thomas, who scored 26 points and was a rebound short of a double-double with nine. He also contributed three steals.

-Matt Lee tied his career best in points with 21 on 8-for-14 shooting.

-Hunter Buescher also recorded a career high in points with 20, as well as seven rebounds and four assists. The junior also went a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe.

-Cam Caldwell went 7-for-8 from the free throw line en route to a 15-point night, also a career night.

WASHINGTON & LEE KEY STATISTICS
-Roy McMillian scored 22 points to lead W&L.

-Clayton Murtha posted 21 points and grabbed 10 boards.
