North Easton, Mass.--Junior forward Justin Campbell (New Haven, CT) was named to the All-Tournament team at the 2017 Wheaton Invitational after he tallied nine points and seven rebounds as the Rhode Island College men's basketball team dropped a 96-65 decision against Sage in the consolation game played at Emerson Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Campbell averaged 12.5 points and six rebounds per game during an 0-2 weekend for the Anchormen.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• RIC sophomore guard Chris Farrington (Fall River, MA) led the team in scoring with 15 points and four rebounds.

• Junior center Grant Gillis (North Kingstown, RI) chipped in with eight points and six rebounds in the loss for the Anchormen.

• Sophomore guard Isaiah Scurry (Albany, NY) paced Sage with 18 points, while junior forward Chris Kidd (Manhattan, NY) added 17 points, four assists and two rebounds in the win for the Gators.

• RIC took its first lead of the contest when a layup from Campbell put the Anchormen up by a pair, 14-12, with 13:21 left in the first half. The Anchormen held a 20-14 advantage after a pair of free throws from Farrington with 12:27 remaining on the clock.

• Sage then used a 21-5 run to take its first double-digit lead of the game, 35-25, on a three-pointer from Kidd with just under five minutes left in the stanza. The Gators took a 46-31 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

• Sage pulled away throughout the second half and cruised to the 96-65 victory.

 

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC shot 31.0 percent (22-of-71) from the field, 25.0 percent (5-of-20) from the three-point line and 80.0 percent (16-of-14) from the free throw line.

• Sage shot 49.3 percent (36-of-73) from the field, 44.4 percent (8-of-18) from the three-point line and 88.9 percent (16-of-8) from the free throw line.

• Sage outrebounded RIC by a 48-43 margin and forced the Anchormen into 20 turnovers.
