Nichols season come to an end in Second Round of NCAA Tournament

ASTON, Pa. – The Nichols College men's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 111-75 loss to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Endicott College in the Second Round of the NCAAA Tournament Saturday night at The Mirenda Center.
 
Sophomore Marcos Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) led the Bison with 30 points while freshman DeAnte Bruton (New London, Conn.) scored 13 points and classmate Jerome Cunningham (Westbury, N.Y.) netted 11 points. The two schools were meeting for the fourth time this season and second time in seven days following the Bison's 67-64 win in the conference championship contest last Saturday.
 
Senior Max Matroni (West Warwick, R.I.) poured in a game-high 34 points (12-of-16 FG) for Endicott. Classmate Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) collected 19 points and seven rebounds, senior Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) notched 15 points and seven dimes, and senior Daquan Sampson (Germantown, Md.) filled the stat sheet with 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
 
Endicott knocked down 60 percent of its shots in the first half and carried an 11-point lead into the break (55-44). Motroni scored 22 points in the opening stanza and he connected on eight of his 10 field goal attempts. Lipscomb chipped in with 13 points while Echevarria led the Bison with 16 points. Cunningham closed the half with 10 points.
 
The Gulls opened the second half on a 21-8 run to open up a 24-point lead (76-52) six minutes in, and their lead never dipped below 21 points the rest of the way.
 
Nichols matched the program record for wins (24), which was set last season. The contest marked the final in the career of senior co-captain Devin Stallings (Waterbury, Conn.), who finished with six points and six rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight's game marked the 29th all-time meeting between Endicott and Nichols. The two schools split four meetings this season and the Gulls now lead the series, 18-11.
