SALEM, Va. - Senior Michael Taylor (Apex, N.C./Grace Christian) scored 19 points as the second-seeded Randolph-Macon men's basketball team dropped a 78-67 decision to No. 7 Washington and Lee Thursday evening in the quarterfinals of the 2017 ODAC Tournament at the Salem Civic Center.
The Generals (13-14) will face the winner of No. 3 Emory & Henry vs. No. 6 Roanoke in the second semifinal contest on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. The Yellow Jackets conclude their season at 17-9.
Taylor hit seven field goals, three of them three-pointers, and both his free throw attempts. Freshman Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) had 12 points, six rebounds and three assists for R-MC.
A three-pointer by Turner capped a 13-6 start for the Yellow Jackets in the first seven minutes of the contest. W&L used a 31-13 run to take a 37-26 lead with 17 seconds left in the first half. Taylor hit a trey just before the horn as R-MC trailed 37-29 at the break. Turner tallied nine in the first half for the Yellow Jackets.
W&L started the second half on a 15-7 spurt to go up 16 at 52-36 with 13:27 left. A layup by sophomore Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) ended a 15-6 run as R-MC pulled with seven at 58-51 with just under eight minutes remaining. The Generals were able to push the lead back to 15 at 70-55 before claiming the 78-67 victory.
Junior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) and sophomore Jon Nowell (Riverdale, Ga./Blair Academy) paced the Yellow Jackets with seven rebounds each. Nowell also registered four blocks.
