FREDERICK, Md. - Scott Bolen scored 39 points, more than any other Hood College men's basketball player in the last nine years, to lead the Blazers to a 97-94 win over Arcadia.

His 39 points, the third most in school history, on his Senior Day were the most for a Hood College player since Ryan Junghans set the school record with 47 points against Gallaudet in February of 2008.

Inside the Box Score

  • Bolen went 13 of 22 from the field and knocked down 7 of 12 3-point field goals. He added seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot to his afternoon.
  • Hood's other seniors also had big days. Tanner Ruths was just one assist shy of the school record with a career-high eight. The guard added 13 points and four steals. Trevor Magnuski tied Bolen for the team-high with seven rebounds, scored 10 points and had three assists.

How it Happened

  • With Hood ahead 94-91 with 20 seconds left, Bolen blocked a potential game-tying 3-pointer by Josh Scott and took an assist from Ruths at the other end for a five-point lead, 96-91, with 15 seconds to go.
  • Ryan Kelley made a 3-pointer to keep Arcadia close with 10 seconds remaining, but Bolen capped the scoring with a free throw two seconds later.
  • Bolen scored seven of the first nine points of the second half as the Blazers stretched a 46-44 halftime lead to 11, 55-44, with 17:54 to go.
  • Hood still led 66-61 before back-to-back 3-pointers by Tyson Sellers gave Arcadia a one-point lead with 9:05 left in the game. Bolen answered with a 3-pointer of his own and reclaimed the lead, 69-67, with 8:22 on the clock.
  • Arcadia tied the game again, but Luke Casey and Jared Ruiz both made pairs of free throws for a 73-69 advantage at 7:49 and the Blazers never trailed again.

Notes

  • Both teams shot at least 50 percent from the field and over 40 percent from 3-point range, though Hood held edges in both categories. Hood shot 54 percent from the floor and went 12 of 26 behind the arc (46 percent). The Knights made 51 percent of their field goals and 41 percent from 3-point range (11 of 27).
  • Hood outrebounded Arcadia 39-29.
  • Brandon Thompson scored 18 points to lead the Knights. Phil Pierfy added 16. Will Derr had 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.
  • The game concluded the regular season for Hood. The Blazers finish with a 16-9 record, including 8-8 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth.
