Bears bow to Red Dragons on the road

ONEONTA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (2-22, 1-16 SUNYAC) was defeated by SUNY Oneonta (14-9, 11-5) 93-63 on Friday night. Sophomore guard Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) led the way for the Bears with 17 points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Jayquan Thomas (Hollis, N.Y./Richmond Hill) had 15 points for the Bears to go along with a block and three steals.
 
Oneonta to raced out to an early 16-4 lead over the first 3:55. Langley then scored the next 10 consecutive points for the Bears, which included two threes and a dunk, but Potsdam still found itself down 28-14 at 10:30. Oneonta kept it's foot on the gas for the rest of the half and took at 52-27 advantage into the break despite a late 5-0 run from the Bears.
 
The Bears started the second half on a 10-4 run, which included another Langley 3-pointer and five points from Thomas. The Red Dragons then went on a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach. The Bears nearly matched Oneonta point-for-point the rest of the way, but couldn't make up ground.
 
Freshman guard Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens High School of Teaching) finished with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Bears. Sophomore forward Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep) and Saunders each chipped in five points and pulled down five and six boards, respectively. Five players for Oneonta put up double digits and were led by Lawrence Coleman with 20 points and five rebounds.
 
The Bears wrap up the season at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon when they face the SUNY New Paltz Hawks.
