WENHAM, Mass. -- Gordon College saw its 1st-half cushion of 17 reduced all the way down to two points in the closing minutes, before securing an 80-72 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball win over the University of New England on Tuesday night (Feb. 14) at the Bennett Center.

The Fighting Scots improve to 14-10 overall and 11-6 in CCC outings, while the Nor'easters slip back to 7-17 and 5-12 in league action.

UNE faced a deficit as large as 12 (52-40) in the 2nd half prior to chipping away at the gap over the next 12 minutes. A triple by Drew Coveney cut the difference to three (66-63) with 4:26 to go, and then two free throws apiece from Jean-Luc Parker and Jackson McCoy sliced it to 72-20 with 2:29 remaining.

But Garrisson Duvivier provided some breathing room for Gordon on the ensuing possession, collecting an offensive rebound and laying it back in for a four-point edge. The Nor'easters came up empty on the two trips that followed and needed to begin fouling, and Jaren Yang made 6-of-6 at the line in the final 56 seconds to seal the result.

The Fighting Scots were guided by Duvivier, who posted a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, to go with six assists and four blocks. Yang contributed 14 points, while another 12, as well as 10 caroms, came from Sam Johnson. Jake Hart totaled 10 points and six assists.

Duvivier's 10-for-14 performance shooting the ball paced Gordon's 49 percent team accuracy from the floor. Meanwhile on the other end, UNE sank 38 percent of its looks.

For the Nor'easters, Parker and CJ Autry registered 19 points (14 and 11, respectively, in the 2nd), and Parker grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. The pair combined to drain 8-of-14 attempts from three-point land (Autry-5, Parker-3), as the visitors made 41 percent from deep during the evening. Gavin Dibble supported by tossing in 16 points.

After UNE jumped out to a 5-0 lead, the hosts took the advantage for good at 10-9 with less than five minutes gone. It was 18-15 just past the midway mark of the period before a 9-0 spurt upped the spread into double digits (27-15).

A three-point play from Yang set the margin at 39-22 with 3:15 left until halftime, but the Nor'easters put together a 10-1 run heading into the break to stay within striking distance (40-32), in spite of Gordon shooting 57 percent from the field in the stanza.

UNE is set to close out the regular-season on Saturday (2 p.m.) at Nichols College (13-3 CCC), looking to solidify its position for a conference tournament berth.
