The Baruch College Bearcats clinched the fourth seed in the 2017 CUNYAC Championship Tournament by defeating the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, 59-49, on Monday night in the ARC Arena.
Prior to the game, the team celebrated Senior Night by honoring Dwayne Brydie in front of family and friends.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 36-19 lead at halftime and started the second half with a quick basket by Allen Villarfor their biggest lead, 38-19.
The visiting Bloodhounds did not go quietly and managed to get as close as eight points (44-36) midway through the second half.
The Bearcats took control down the stretch with six points by Chimaechi Ekekeugbor, while Jack Sixsmithand William Sixsmitheach hit a pair of crucial free throws in the final minute to help seal the win.
The Bearcats will host a quarterfinal round playoff game on Sunday, February 19 (time TBA).
