No. 21 Hope Men's Basketball Totals Season-High 24 Assists, Surges Past Adrian

Harrison Blackledge and the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion Hope College men's basketball team opened the second half at Adrian with a quick barrage that made sure their league record would remain perfect.

The 21st-ranked Flying Dutchmen charged to an 82-62 win Saturday after bolting out of halftime on a five-minute, 18-4 run that stretched their lead to 18 points.

The lead never sunk below double digits as Hope pushed its win streak to 12 games and improved to 19-4 overall. The Flying Dutchmen are 12-0 in MIAA play - four games ahead of second-place Calvin.

Blackledge totaled a team-high 21 points. The senior forward from Canton, Ohio (Hoover HS) scored eight of them during Hope's decisive surge to start the second half.

The Flying Dutchmen led 34-33 at halftime after overcoming an early nine-point deficit.

Blackledge passed Don Overbeek for 18th place all-time among the Flying Dutchmen's scoring list. Blackledge has 1,265 points in 104 games. Overbeek collected 1,259 points between 1999-2003.

Junior guard Dante Hawkins of Holland, Michigan (Holland) added 16 points and a game-high seven assists against Adrian (7-16, 1-11).

Hope recorded a season-high 24 assists on 27 made baskets. Senior guard Chad Carlson of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford) had six assists.

The Flying Dutchmen finish the regular season with two home games next week: Wednesday, Feb. 15 vs. Kalamazoo at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 18 at Calvin at 3 p.m.
