William Paterson Men’s Basketball Falls at Rutgers-Camden, 82-72

CAMDEN, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (10-14, 6-11 NJAC) fell at Rutgers-Camden (5-19, 2-15 NJAC), 82-72, Feb. 11.

 

Senior forward Richy Espinal (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) added 10 rebounds to his season-high 24 points. Senior guards Joseph Taylor (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) and Galen Smith (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway Tech) collected 16 and 12 points, respectively.

 

The Pioneers extended a 42-37 halftime lead into a 52-39 advantage with 15:39 to play, but the Scarlet Raptors put together a 16-4 run to get within one at 56-55 at the 11:22 mark. After a Fredrik Hagbarth (Stockholm, Sweden/Kungsholmens Gymnasium) free throw, Rutgers-Camden scored the next 10 points (65-57, 9:02), and when Smith's three-pointer cut the lead to six late (78-72, 0:40), Rutgers-Camden put the game away by going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

 

Junior guard Shafeek Taylor contributed 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors. Sophomore forward Isaac Destin added 14 tallies.

 

William Paterson will celebrate Senior Night Wednesday, Feb. 15, at home against Kean at 8:00 p.m.
