Gophers Fall at Home in Physical Bout with Moravian

TOWSON, MD – The Goucher men's basketball team (4-18, Landmark 1-10) ultimately fell, 81-74, despite taking a 47-41 lead into the intermission.

The Gophers shot 28.6% (8-of-28) from the field in the second half after shooting 70.8% (17-of-24) in the first half.

Goucher was led offensively by senior Tre Galloway III with 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. Fellow senior Chris Outing scored 15 points and earned his second double-double of the season with 14 rebounds – one shy of his career-high. Freshman Justin McIvor tied two career-highs with six points and three rebounds in the game.

The Greyhounds were led by sophomore Jimmy Murray with 25 points while senior Brandon McGuire scored 17 points and wrangled 13 rebounds.

How It Happened:

  • The Gophers jumped out to a 12-6 lead before Moravian caught back up to trail 13-11.  
  • Both teams went tit-for-tat for the remainder of the period, with the largest lead being taken by Goucher 35-29 with 5:24 left in the first half.
  • The Gophers closed the half with their six-point lead 47-41.
  • The second half was a physical matchup with both teams playing all out.
  • The Greyhounds finally grabbed a lead 57-56 with 9:18 left in the game before the Gophers erased the deficit and took the lead 67-65 on an old-fashioned three-point play by senior Jesse Mondry.
  • The Greyhounds quickly jumped back out ahead two minutes later and never looked back as they went on to win 81-74.
  • Goucher outshot Moravian 48.1% to 35.7% over the course of the game.
  • The Gophers held an advantage not only in shooting, but rebounds (41-39), points in the paint (42-26) and fast break points (4-2).

Goucher remains at home on Saturday when they take on the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown College for Senior Day at 4PM. In their first matchup, the Gophers fell to the Blue Jays 70-62 on the road.
